official short biography
Leendert Jan Vis (*1955) trained in Electronic Engeneering,
but only stayed in that Industry for a short period of time.
After various other carrer paths, he eventually began writing
for Walt Disneys weekly magazine, Donald Duck. A few
years later he designed his first greeting card. It was the
first of many cards that have currently sold over 100 million
worldwide.
So, what is the secret of his success? We should ask the numerous
collectors. It is because his simple and perfectly aligned
drawings, with such touching characters are portrayed with
a subtle and sometimes slightly absurd humour. Leendert Jans
interpretation of everyday situations will bring a smile to
your face. His style is unresistable and insurpassable.

LJV's work
Leendert Jan has become famous by his wunderful
cards and fluffy toys. But he has already been working on
many different projects in the past.
He has written and illustrated 3 children's books, which unfortunatly
has only been published in the Netherlands and Italy, yet.
2001 he has written another book. Namely the Valentine's book
"Voor jou" (= "For you"). Every book has
been published by Lemniscaat.
In 1995 Leendert Jan draw the comic "The Hidden World"
for the company Pulse Interactive. You can read the comic
at Sonja's
site.
In the mid 90ies Leendert Jan made lots of commercial illustrations,
e.g. for Ikea or Albert Heijn.
I especially like his artwork at the entrance of the Artis
Zoo in Amsterdam. See the pictures at Sonja's
site ("other works" -> "Artis
Zoo").
Leendert Jan also made illustrations for various other books
and projects.
